Fortress Information Security, LLC (Fortress IS) is a captain of industry in the cybersecurity realm. Their platform secures forty percent of the United States’ power grid, critical manufacturing industries, and significant national defense related assets. In September of this year, Fortress IS hired Cornerstone Government Affairs, Inc. (Cornerstone GA) to lobby on behalf of supply chain cybersecurity. The focus is o risk management appropriations and policy both for defense and critical infrastructure. These closely align with the stated goal of heightened cybersecurity measures taken by the United States over the previous years, even more so since the February invasion of Ukraine.
According to the Federal Chief of Information Office: “Our Nation’s security and economic prosperity depend on the stability and integrity of our Federal communications and information infrastructure. Threats to cyberspace pose some of the most serious challenges of the 21st century for the United States.”
Some of the issues Fortress IS champions are improving the integrity and security of the software supply chain. Executive Order 14034 – Protecting Americans’ Sensitive Data from Foreign Adversaries – reaffirmed presidential commitment to enhance cybersecurity in order to protect American security, economics, and fundamental freedoms. Its predecessor, Executive Order 14028 – Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity – stresses the importance of rigorous and predictable cyber-mechanism to enhance the security of critical software.
