2022 Total Lobbying Expenditure Around 230,000 USD

The Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA) was hired for 120,000 USD to lobby on behalf of budget and appropriations, education, and health issues. The recently released third quarter report names Catherine Majewski and Tyler Smith as the primary lobbyists for the PAEA. Majewski has been the the company for over four years and presently holds the position as Manager for Government Relations. Smith is the Senior Director of Government Relations and has been with the company for over five years. In an interview with the PA Path Podcast in April, Smith said:
“In the past five years, I’ve been doing this work, I’ve had to do less and less of an educational part of the pitch, which really equips me to provide more time to the policy side – explaining some of our priorities like clinical site access, diversity in the profession, and other things rather than just sort of doing the basic groundwork.”
In 2022, so far, PAEA’s total lobbying expenditure is approximately 230,000. PAEA works to ensure quality physician assistant education via the development and distribution of educational materials and programs designed to meet the needs of newly minted physician assistants. They also release materials and products for the health care industry and the physician assistant profession as a whole. There are two recent bills that are being championed by PAEA: HR 2274 and HR 3890. The latter would assist qualifying individuals to receive the required education and training to become a physician assistant by making graduate students eligible for direct subsidized Stafford loans and loan forgiveness programs after graduation. HR 2274 would additionally require the Department go Education: to provide grants to historically Black colleges and universities, prioritize the awarding of grants to postbaccalaureate individuals of Hispanic and low-income backgrounds, and allow certain grants to support matriculation in rural-serving communities. HR 3890 establishes multiple grants within the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), stating the HRSA must allocate fifty percent of the grant funds for rural sites and prioritize programs that expand clinical rotations in pediatrics, behavioral health, or women’s health.
