California Olive Ranch Hires Redding

The law firm Redding, Robert Lee Jr. was hired by California Olive Ranch on September 21st of 2022 to lobby on their behalf in the area of agriculture. Specified in their lobbying report, the following areas of interest were identified:
Standards of identity, FY2023 Appropriations, conservation, and the FY2023 Farm Bill.
With the joint citizen petition submitted to the Food and Drug Administration in early July of this year, these lobbying efforts are likely to encourage the adoption of the proposed Standards of Identity for olive oil products. These standards will delineate between different olive oil grades. This delineation may also assist to identify specific health benefits associated with the consumption of olive oil.
California Olive Ranch along with several other industry leaders aim to standardize such regulations to grow consumer trust and benefit the industry as a whole. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) explanatory notes of the 2023 Farm Bill mention olive oil as one of the more than five-hundred quality grade standards in place. A 2022 report submitted by House Representative Bishop notes the adoption of these standards would better protect and inform consumers, encouraging the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to consult with domestic producers and importers as directed in the House of Representatives Report 116-446 from July of 2020. This report specifically expresses the importance of utilizing a science based standard of identity to ensure product integrity for consumers.
